The actors on The Office usually improvised to add in jokes. But there was a sweet moment between Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) that was improvised because she was terrified. Kinsey talked about why she was so scared to do the scene and how Wilson helped her through it.

Dwight and Angela had a secret relationship on ‘The Office’

The couple’s secret affair started to show in season 2. Soon their connection made sense with them both being strict rule followers and hungry for power in odd ways.

The show ended with their wedding and they had a baby. Most of their time before the finale was spent with them avoiding each other in the office, but they still had sweet moments.

Dwight and Angela do ‘Little Drummer Boy’ together

The episode “A Benihana Christmas” shows Karen (Rashida Jones) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) throwing their own office Christmas party. This angers Angela and she struggles to gain control back in the office.

This forces the rest of the office to pick sides. But the episode ends with everyone coming together. Dwight and Angela are still keeping their relationship a secret. But there is a short scene where Angela is singing “Little Drummer Boy” and he joins her.

Rainn was improvising to help Angela Kinsey

The Christmas party ends with Angela singing “The Little Drummer Boy” on a karaoke machine. Dwight is there holding the microphone for her and it’s a very sweet moment. This wasn’t scripted.

“I was terrified to sing the song in front of everyone. I do not like singing in front of people,” Kinsey explained on the Office Ladies podcast. She said her family is shocked by this fear given she does improv and stand-up comedy.

“I shut down,” the actor explained. “My brain computer is like ‘Ehhhh I can’t do it.’ And there’s been a few times in my career when I’ve had to do this and this was the first time and I was terrified.”

But Wilson came in and helped her. “I shared with Rainn how scared I was,” she said. Kinsey did a few takes with the microphone being on a stand. She had her hands gripped together so tightly that she was leaving marks and she showed Wilson.

That’s when he took the microphone, dropped to his knee, and started making the beat because Kinsey had a tough time staying on beat. “All of a sudden I wasn’t alone. Rainn was with me,” Kinsey said.

We see her smile because of Wilson’s help in the scene. The smile wasn’t scripted for Angela. It’s a genuine one because Kinsey was happy to have her friend help her through the scene.
